August 7 - 13: Transatlantic crossing on the Queen Mary 2, New York to
Southampton.
August 13-14: Arrive in Southampton, England. Drive eight hours NE through
England to Northumberland. Stay two nights at Low Dover B&B, Beadnell.
Visit castles at Dunstanburgh, Alnwick, and Bamburgh. Visit Holy Island of
Lindisfarne.

Cathy and I walked through the pastures and alone the cliffs to Dunstaburgh Castle.
Bamburgh is one of the most beautiful castles in England. J.P. and I visited it previously four years ago.
Alnwick Castle is still occupied by the lord of the region. Scenes from the Harry Potter movie were filmed here.
The tidal road to Holy Island, Lindisfarne. At high tide the road is completely sumerged. The tower is for motorists who do not check the schedules.

Pastures on the left. Cliffs and the North Sea to the right. A total lack of commericalization. This is one of the few places in the world where you can really pretend that you are viewing a medieval sight as it looked a thousand years ago.

August 15: Drive through the Scottish Borders and visit the ruins of Jedburgh
and Melrose Abbeys. Arrive in Stirling and stay at the Firgrove Guest
House.

August 16: Visit Stirling Castle. Then drive through the Western
Highlands and take the ferry from Oban to Craignure on the Isle of Mull.
Stay two nights at Caol-Ithe Guesthouse in Finnphort on the Isle of Mull.
It's an hour's ride between Oban on the mainland and Craigmere on the Isle of Mull.

August 17: Take a passenger ferry from the Isle of Mull to the Isle of
Iona.

August 18: Take the return ferry trip between Craignure and Oban. Drive
from Oban to the Isle of Skye vis Fort William and the "Road to the Isles." Stay two
nights at Donan House B&B, Dornie, just east of the Skye Bridge.

August 20-21: Leave Skye, drive around Loch Ness, and head for Edinburgh.
Stay two nights in the Edinburgh area, one night at the Elgin Hotel in
Charleston and one night at Davaar House in Dunferline.

August 22: Walk around Dunferline Abbey early morning. Fly home on
Continental 109, Edinburgh to Newark.
